William Merle Byers (Bill), age 61, of Edinboro, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
William was born on August 6, 1949, in Kane, Pennsylvania, the only child of the late William E. and Effie Byers. He grew up in Marienville, Pa, and attended East Forest High School.
William served in the United States Army from 1969-1971. He fought in the Vietnam War, and was tremendously proud to be an American veteran. William also worked at General Electric in the powerhouse for 30 years, then, enthusiastically embraced his retirement in July 2006.
William married Margaret McAdorey in August 1971. Together for over 40 years, they cherished their time together. William also enjoyed spending time alone, up in his “shop,” fixing engines and tinkering with machinery. He was a gifted welder. Wal-Mart was his favorite place to shop, and he loved to sit with his wife on their front porch, eating spicy foods and enjoying an I.C. Light or two! William was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association and the Edinboro McKean VFW Post 740.
William’s greatest joys in life besides his wife were his daughter and son-in-law, but his heart was exceptionally filled with love for his two grandsons, William, age 10, and James, age 8.
William will be sorely missed by his wife, Margaret, daughter, Cathie, son-in-law, Lou, and grandsons, William and James. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers-in law, sisters-in law, nieces, and nephews.
Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home, 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Monday, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until the time of a small prayer service at 8:00 p.m..
