Wesley Edwin Hakanen, Ph.D., 82, of Edinboro died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, February 25, 2015. He was born on June 17, 1932 the son of the late Sulo Hakanen and Fleming Whitsell Bentley.
Wes received his doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh, was an administrator at Pennsylvania State University for 23 years and an administrator at Edinboro University retiring in 1991. He was active in professional and community affairs and has been listed in Who's Who of Prominent Training and Development Professionals. He was also co-founder and president of the Pennsylvania Association of Adult and Continuing Education.
Wes served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Edinboro United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years Mimi Roberts Hakanen, four children, Chriss Hakanen of Erie, Evan Hakanen of Hollywood, FL and Eran Hakanen and his wife Peiyu of Edinboro; a brother, Dennis Hakanen and a sister, Sandra Dickson both of Pittsburgh; a niece Sandra Hoover of Lancaster and his sister-in-law, Jacqueline Roberts of Leechburg; five adored grandchildren, C. Wesley, William, Dennis, Wesley and Marcella Hakanen.
No calling hours will be observed. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
