Virgil Clair Marsh, Sr., 84, of McKean, has gone home to be with his family on Thursday, March 10, 2016, after a long battle with ALS. He was born in McKean, on October 10, 1931, son of the late Clair C. and Mary (Wright) Marsh.
Virgil was a simple man of simple needs and found great pleasure in watching westerns while drinking a good cup of coffee. He could tell you everything you needed to know and more when it came to any tractor made, especially his favorite, John Deere. He shared many stories about the good ol' days and the farming community of McKean, and the daily “egg run” he and his brother did as young men to deliver the eggs to the many customers of their parents. He often reminisced about the generations of Marsh Family in the McKean area and “all the land they farmed”, recounting the memories as you drove him through town. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him and all the laughs he shared while he made people guess why he had a “nubbed fore finger”, and if you could find the dog in the picture, well that just made his day.
Virgil was a dairy farmer most of his life but also worked for many years and retired from Comtech in Erie.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Russell Neal Marsh.
He is survived by two sons, Virgil (Stacey) Marsh, Jr. of McKean and Gregory (Erica) Marsh of Allentown, PA; two daughters, Lisa (Joseph) Pilliteri of Waterford and Amanda Marsh of Wurtsboro, NY; five grandchildren; Tyler Marsh, Cody Marsh, Katelyn Pilleteri, Allison Pilliteri and Brianna Marsh; also his little buddy, Rocco.
Friends may gather at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Burial will be in Erie County Memorial Gardens on Wednesday at 10 am. Memorials may be made to the ALS Association, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 6051, Albert Lea, MN 56007. To send condolences please visit www.gluntfuneralhome.com.
