Russell Leon Prenatt, of Edinboro, Pa., formerly of Saegertown, was born May 16, 1950 at Spencer Hospital in Meadville, and passed away Christmas Day, December 25, 2011, in Nashville, Tenn. He was blessed to have family by his side at the Tennessee Valley Veterans Affairs Hospital which is affiliated with Vanderbilt University. He had been diagnosed with a rare blood disease in 1996 and died due to complications related to pneumonia while undergoing a stem cell transplant. After graduating from Randolph East Mead High School in 1968, Russell served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. Following military service, he graduated from Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell, Conn. Russell was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church in Edinboro. Russell was the third child of Robert J. and Jane F. Hamilton Prenatt. Survivors include one daughter, Dale Marie Prenatt, of Cincinnati, Ohio; four brothers, Benton and his wife, Kathleen, of Vermilion, Ohio, Michael and his wife, Rosemary, of Frenchtown, Alan and his wife, Kristy, of Meadville, and Eric and his wife, Valerie, of Meadville; three sisters, Diane Gross and her husband, Paul, Denise Curry, and Amy Smith and her husband, Scott, all of Meadville; 18 nieces and nephews; 21 great-nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts and uncles. Russell was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Bruce Curry; and a nephew, Chad Gross. A volunteer at his parish store, Thrifty Threads, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the VFW, and a former commander of American Legion Post #267 in Ormond Beach, Fla. Russell's passion for faith, family, and tradition was extraordinary. His great love for his extended family was well known. Ever the life of the party, he entertained as storyteller, friend, and delightful companion. Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home, on Friday, December 30, 2011, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service to follow. On Saturday, a viewing will be held at 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake, 128 Sunset Drive in Edinboro, with a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Hippolyte Cemetery in Frenchtown.
