Rosemarie Malec, 74, of Edinboro, a loving wife, mother, sister and friend passed away Thursday November 25, 2021 at UPMC Hamot. She was born in New Castle, PA on December 17, 1946, the daughter of the late Louis A. and Angela “Mary” DeMarco, Sr.
Roe earned her registered nursing diploma from Montefiore Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA then went on to earn her certification as a nurse practitioner from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. At the age of 55, she earned a Bachelor’s in Healthcare Management from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL. She held various roles as both a registered nurse and OB/GYN nurse practitioner, working many years at Family Planning Services and Lake Erie Women’s Center caring for the women of Erie County. She trained new physicians in women's health through the SPEC program at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Rosemarie was a nurse for 50 years, not retiring until the age of 68 because she loved her patients.
Roe was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church where she served as the parish council president for several years. She loved reading, crafting, watching re-runs of Perry Mason and Murder, She Wrote as well as thrifting and baking with her granddaughters. Rosemarie had many friends that she enjoyed spending time with and speaking with daily.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Francis “Buddy” Malec, Jr.; a daughter, Nicole Malec and her husband, Patrick John of Erie; a son, Francis “Butch” Malec, III and his wife, Peigi of Portland, OR; two brothers, Louis A. DeMarco, Jr. and his wife, Patty of Cortland, OH and Harry DeMarco and his wife, Vicki of Dallas, TX; and three granddaughters, Arden and Teaghan John and Minerva Malec. She also leaves many dear cousins, nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro on Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 3rd at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 128 Sunset Dr., Edinboro, PA at 11:00 a.m.
