Dr. Ronald G. Baker, 75, of Edinboro, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014 at his home. He was born in Erie, PA on March 21, 1939, son of the late Robert John and Genevieve McLaughlin Baker. In 1790 his ancestors settled in Edinboro, PA.
He was a teacher at Warren Area High School for five years. For forty years before his retirement he was a professor of mathematics and computer science at Edinboro University of PA where he became the chair of the department.
Dr. Baker was a graduate of Cathedral Prep. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Edinboro University and a Master of Science degree at SUNY in Albany, NY. He earned his Doctorate at SUNY in Buffalo, NY.
He was an Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, a charter member
of the Kiwanis, and a member of PSEA. Ron helped found Boy Scout Troop #176.
Among his favorite hobbies were building or remodeling homes and cabinets, playing cards, camping and traveling through all 50 states or touring Europe.
Dr. Baker attended Our Lady of the Lake Church where he was a past president of the parish council and the chairman of the building and grounds committee.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Ronald P. Baker on September 15, 2013.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Baker; 1 daughter, Christina Baker and Jason Weaver of Earlysville, VA; 3 sons, James and (Judith) Baker and Mark and (Lisa) Baker of Edinboro, Joseph and (Flo-Ann) Baker of Columbus, OH, and a daughter-in-law, Jan Baker of Corry; 2 brothers, Robert L. and (Barbara) Baker of Fredericksburg, VA and Rev. James E. Baker of Garden City, KS; a lifelong friend, Grace Christine Baker of Pratt, KS.; also 7 grandchildren, Steven, James L. and Alexa Baker, and Eva, Liam, Walter, and Brynley Weaver.
Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Tuesday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Rosary will be held at 3:45 pm. led by the Knights of Columbus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Church on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m with co-celebrants Rev. James Baker and Rev. Daniel Hoffman.
Burial will be in Edinboro Cemetery.
