Ronald Paul Ackerman, Sr., 71, of Edinboro, formerly of Sheffield, PA, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014 at St. Vincent Health System. He was born in Meadville on October 19, 1943, the son of the late George Ackerman and Edith (Poe) Shallenbarger.
Ron loved shopping, playing cards, especially Bridge, and spending time with his wife. He was renowned for being a wonderfully helpful man where ever he went. He was also known to all of his grand kids as “Grumpy Papa”.
He was a member of the Sheffield Vol. Fire Department for many years and was in the US Army during Vietnam.
He worked as a manager of many different restaurants in the warren area.
He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence; a daughter, Victoria; three brothers, Edward, George and Albert; and a sister, Martha Shallenbarger.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Linda (Carlson) Ackerman; three sons, Thomas Ackerman, Ronald Ackerman, Jr., and Martin (Sedessa) Ackerman; a daughter, Melinda (David) Furry; a sister, Connie Ackerman, all of Edinboro, also, 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Saturday from 2 – 4 p.m.
