Robert W. Holderer, 70, of Edinboro died Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Select Specialty Hospital. He was born on Long Island in New York on March 2, 1950.
Robert received his Ph.D. in English Composition and Rhetoric from Oklahoma State University. He held several other degrees, including Master of Education: Professional Development from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater; Master of Arts: Spanish from Middlebury College; and Bachelor of Arts: Spanish from Houghton College. He spent most of his long career as an English professor at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, where he directed the University Writing Center and served as Assistant Chairperson of the Department of English and Philosophy. He also taught English and Spanish at Barton County Community College, Maranatha College, and Pillsbury College; in addition, he taught English, French, and Spanish at high schools in Philadelphia, PA and Whitehall, NY. During his almost thirty years of dedicated service at Edinboro, he made substantial contributions to the university and devoted himself to furthering the success of his students.
Robert was an accomplished organist who played piano and organ for several churches. Most recently, he served as Music Director of New Hope Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Abiding Hope Lutheran Church and served on the council there. He was also on the Board of Trustees of Bethesda Children's Home in Meadville and served a term as a trustee at Thiel College.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister.
Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Sunday, February 21, 2021 from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by a service at 4 p.m. All CDC guidelines requiring face masks and social distancing will be in place.
