Richard A. "Rick" Walker

June 3, 1952 — January 31, 2025

Edinboro

Richard A. Walker, 72, of Edinboro, died Friday, January 31, 2025 at his residence. He was born in Edinburgh, Indiana on June 3, 1952, the son of Richard H. and Evelyn Walker.

Rick was a devoted family man whose love of family was only second to his love of God. He worked alongside his father, brothers and other relatives at the Walker Brothers Dealership started by his grandfather in 1916. Rick, along with his son, Richard also continued his other grandfather’s Christmas tree farm, growing it to include hydroponic greenhouses. He looked forward to Christmas tree season every year where he could watch families make memories together on his farm. He was a hard worker that understood the importance of balancing work and family and blending them whenever possible. He loved playing with his kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Whether it was building igloos and snow forts or playing tag he enjoyed engaging with the kids in the family and including them in taking care of the farm.

Rick loved the outdoors. In his youth he was an avid runner and was on the first cross-country team at General McLane High School. He went on to run for Edinboro University and started a running club at Northwood University after transferring there his sophomore year. He enjoyed skiing from a young age and that is how he and Sue spent their first date! In the Summer he loved doing family canoe trips, hikes in the woods or just getting the family together and making plans for the farm. He was always monitoring the weather, and acted as our own personal meteorologist letting us know how it would impact us.

Rick loved his church and his community. He served in various ways at the Presbyterian Church of Edinboro throughout his life and enjoyed singing in the choir. He also served on the board for the General McLane Foundation where he was excited to continue support of our students and staff in the district while remembering and honoring those who had gone before him.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Cindy and Amanda Walker; and a grandson, Thomas Walker.

Other than his parents, survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Carol “Sue” Walker, of Edinboro; 2 sons, Richard (Betsy) Walker of Edinboro, and Michael Walker of Slippery Rock; 2 daughters, Mary Beth (Anthony) Honeycutt and Jill (Brad) Wingler; 3 brothers, Craig (Rhonda) Walker, Brent (Joann) Walker, and Randy (Lianne) Walker, all of Edinboro; 2 sisters, Debbie (Ron) Kmecik of West Springfield and Carol (Brian) Johnson of Edinboro; 9 grandchildren, Grace, Anthony, Elise and Lucy Honeycutt, Ainsley and Richie Walker, Jonathan, Haddon and Cindy Wingler; and many nieces and nephews.
