Paul Timashenka

Paul Timashenka, 93, of Edinboro died, Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Sarah A. Reed Senior Living Center. He was born in Springdale, PA, the son of the late Konstantine and Helen Timashenka.

Paul served his country in World War II as a corporal in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He received a BS in Chemistry from California University of Pennsylvania. He went on to the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his Master's Degree in School Administration, and received his Doctorate in Special Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He was a licensed school psychologist.

He began his career as an Industrial Arts teacher in Blawnox, PA and in East Deer-Frasier, now Deer Lakes, in Creighton, PA. He was a proud recipient of the Broadhead-Garrett Award for excellence in Industrial Arts Education. While pursuing his doctorate, he worked in the Crawford County Office of Education in Meadville, PA and in the state capitol, Harrisburg, at the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Upon completion of his doctorate, he was a Professor of Special Education at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania until his retirement in 1982. In the 1980s and 1900s, he also was a partner in a private psychological testing firm. A member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Edinboro, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was a lifetime member of the Krivan Hall Association, Inc in Springdale, a lifetime member of the National Education Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the Technology and Engineering Education Association of Pennsylvania.  He also belonged to the Council of Exceptional Children and Phi Delta Kappa. An avid sports enthusiast, he was a high school basketball star and East Deer football and basketball coach. Throughout his life, he belonged to many golf and bowling leagues and was proud of his Holes-in-One especially the one on the ninth hole at Holiday Acres.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Nicholas, Konstantine “Kelly”, Alexei and Iwan Timashenka; three sisters, Helen “Ellen” Killian, Nancy Forges and Ann Lochrane; and son-in-law Richard “Schultz” Hofmann.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Mary; 3 daughters: Margaret (Robert) Clark of Edinboro; Christine (William) Bules of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mary “Tish” Timashenka of Erie; 2 sons: Paul (Ann) Timashenka of Mechanicsburg, PA and Thomas (Connie) of Mercer, PA; a brother: Theodore “Ted”, of Butler; 6 grandchildren: Angela (Richard) Geiger, Benjamin (Julie) Timashenka, Andrea (Jason Schanholtz) Timashenka, Dr. Alexander Bules, Peter Timashenka, Katherine Timashenka; and 3 great-grandchildren: Brannon, Brogan, and Aubrey Timashenka; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Sunday, October 8, 2017, from 2 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday with Fr. Dan Hoffman officiating. Family and friends are invited to the Interment Services at Deer Creek Cemetery, Cheswick, PA on Tuesday. October 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
