Paul R. Davis III, fondly known as "Zim," 72, of Edinboro, died Monday, November 25, 2024, at UPMC Hamot. He was born in Hershey, PA, on May 19, 1952, the son of the late Paul and Mary Davis.
Paul graduated from McDowell High School in 1970, leaving Warwick High School in Newport News, VA after 10th grade to move to Millcreek. He attended Edinboro University of PA and served in the Coast Guard. An Eagle Scout himself, he was part of a long line of scouts and was active as a leader in Troop 235 in Cambridge Springs.
Zim spent most of his professional career in commercial vehicle sales for Lake Erie, Ferraro, and Champion Ford. For 40+ years, he could often be found wearing a Blue Oval hat, delivering vehicles throughout Pennsylvania and neighboring states. He loved all animals, especially dogs, but his donkey, Jasper, was the stuff of legends on Irish Road, as were the annual summer gatherings Zim and his family hosted over many years. Zim loved his family, was extremely proud and supportive of his children, and was especially fond of his grandchildren. He was a friend to many, but the close-knit crew from Back Acres Country Club helped form generational bonds for him and his family.
In addition to the country club, he was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church of Edinboro and St. Francis Usher's Club in McKean.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Deborah Mooney Davis; his step-mother, Margurite Davis of Homestead Village, PA; his brother, Jeff Davis (Michelle) of Havana, FL; his children, Dustin Davis-Phillips (Shannon) of Barnesville, OH, Seth Davis (Brandi) of Pittsburgh, PA, Jeb Davis (Kristin) of McKean, PA, and Shelby Chernicky (William) of Edinboro, PA; nephews, Tyson, Corey, John, Shane, and Jordan; and nieces, Allison, Courtney, and Hillary. He was blessed with eight loving grandchildren; Jake Earley (21), Reagan Davis-Phillips (10), Morgan Davis-Phillips (8), Adilynn Chernicky (8), Easton Davis (7), Elsie Davis (5), Ava Chernicky (4), and Alivia Chernicky (1).
Family and friends may call at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 427 W. Plum St., Edinboro, PA on Friday, December 6th from 3 to 5 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m.
