Merle Edwin Hutchison, 88, of Edinboro died Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Edinboro Manor. He was born in New Castle, PA on Sept. 14, 1925, the son of the late Theodore and Alice (Bohn) Hutchison.
Merle graduated from Strong Vincent High School and Edinboro State Teachers College. A Purple Heart Veteran, he served in World War II in Europe. He was a past commander of American Legion Post 770 and a charter member of the Edinboro/McKean VFW Post 740.
Merle, commonly called “Hutch”, was a kind, gentle man who loved his family. He was an excellent baseball player and an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
He was self-employed as the owner of a small trolley car restaurant, Hutch's Hut, while attending college and then bought and ran Proud Printery in Edinboro for 20 years. He then worked at Bogart Business Forms in Erie for 19 years.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheri Hutchison and a brother, Homer.
Survivors include loving wife of 64 years, Jane Hutchison; a daughter, Carol Vago and her husband, Ed, of Buffalo, NY; a son, Mark Hutchison and his wife, Cathy, of Edinboro; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Ted and Donn Hutchison; and a sister, Alice Frndak (Paul).
At Merle's request there will be no calling hours or service.
The Glunt Funeral Home, Edinboro, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
