Melvin A. Wellman, Sr., 86, of Edinboro, died Saturday, July 12, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born in Edinboro on May 10, 1928, the son of the late Clyde D. and Blanche M. Colvin Budd Wellman.
Among loving his family, Mel enjoyed farming, outdoors, tractors, cutting firewood, gardening, making maple syrup and camping.
Melvin worked 11 years for Marx Toys and 7 years for National Forge. He also worked at American Standard Co., Perry Shipyard and farmed for himself for many years.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jane in September 2005, a sister-in-law, Patricia Budd in August 2012 and a brother, Earl Wellman in February 2014.
Survivors include his three sons; Don Rutkowski of Waterford, Melvin (Michele) Wellman of Union City and Charles “Ed” (Jennifer) Wellman of Edinboro; a brother, Herbert Budd of Pittsfield; a sister, Helen Finch of Nebraska; 8 grandchildren, Rose, Sean, Samantha, Paul, Matthew, Ashton, Zachery and Garrett; also, several great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A service will be held there on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Don Fisher of Erie First Assembly of God officiating.
