Marie Flynn

Marie K. Flynn of Edinboro, passed away unexpectedly on February 26, 2010, in Bradenton, FL. She was born near Conneautville, PA on Thanksgiving Day 1924, the daughter of the late Edith and Joseph Kardosh. She married Clare L. Flynn on December 26, 1946. They celebrated their 60th anniversary before Clare's passing in 2007.
Marie graduated from Edinboro Teachers College, with a B.S. degree in Chemistry and Physics and a minor in Mathematics. She began her career teaching at Cranberry Township School near Franklin, then taught at Waterford High School. She stopped teaching to raise their family. She returned to teaching at North Springfield High School, then taught at Cambridge Springs High School from 1958 until 1990, when she retired from Penncrest School District. She greatly enjoyed learning of her former students' endevours and the successes in their lives. She was a dedicated teacher of Junior High mathematics and Algebra, as well as dedicated to her children and grandchildren.
Marie and Clare owned a dairy farm, working as a team, to plant the crops and care for the animals. They sold the farm in 1972. Today the Edinboro Walmart is located on their farm. Marie was an avid flower gardener, developing her own Day Lily varieties. Many admired the flower gardens around her home and enjoyed the vegetables from her garden. Marie was also an avid golfer. Marie and Clare participated in many golf leagues in the Edinboro area. They enjoyed traveling and spending the winters at their home in Florida.
Marie was a member of the Edinboro United Methodist Church and Emmanuel Methodist Church in Bradenton, FL. She was also a member of PSEA and PSERS.
Marie is survived by a daughter Gail and her husband Jim Stickner of Edinboro, and two sons, Dr. Paul Flynn PhD. and his wife Peggyann of Fairview; and Pat Flynn and his wife Kristin of High Falls, NY. She also survived by grandchildren, Dean Shepherd, wife Jennifer and their children Micheal, Lloyd, Galen, and Cian of Edinboro; Dr. Shelly Forbes, PharmD., husband Dan, and their children Logan and Gavin of Saegertown; Carrie Powell and her husband Jason of Edinboro; Chondra Straub, husband Michael and children Olivia and Roxanne, of Baltimore; Allison Flynn and her husband Andrew Bruinsma of Erie; and Jason Flynn, wife Beth and son Oliver of Charleston, SC.  She is also survived by a sister Catherine Hubbard of Townville formerly (Conneaut Lake) and a brother Frank Kardosh and his wife Alice of Conneautville, PA, sisters-in-law Karen Kardosh, Nancy Kardosh of Conneautville and Marie Fuller of Edinboro and many nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Clare L. Flynn, and her brothers Emory Kardosh and Joseph Kardosh both of Conneautville.
Memorials may be made to Cambridge Springs High School National Honor Society (CSHS National Honor Society) at Cambridge Springs High School, 698 Venango Ave., Cambridge Springs, PA 16403.
Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home, 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Edinboro United Methodist Church, 113 High Street, Edinboro on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ted Cole officiating.
Burial will be in Edinboro Cemetery.
