Louis L. Beck was born in Cleveland, Ohio September 13, 1923 and died at age 90 on June 18, 2014 peacefully at home on the farm he loved surrounded by loving family and caregivers. Louis graduated from John Adams Senior High School in Cleveland and moved to his Edinboro farm after serving proudly as a sergeant in the Marines during World War II based in the Philippines. Lou loved and embraced his farm life with many pets, country, and large family.
Lou was well known for his kind, jovial nature and exceptional generosity to friends, coworkers, neighbors, family, and animals. His sketches were recognized by artistic awards and known to family, yet often hidden from others. Lou was proud of the house he built on the farm which he tended by day. By night, he was the reliable pressman for the Erie Times-News for about four decades after working for UARCO in the Cleveland area.
Louis was the son of John (1962) and Margaret Magdalena Beck (1978). He was the last surviving sibling, with many nieces and nephews, predeceased by brothers Joseph (2001) and Robert (2010) and sisters Pearl (1920s as a baby), Beverly Fischberg (2002), June Seither (2008), and Mildred Beck (2011). The family is grateful for the warmth, commitment, and compassion of his caregivers, especially Wendy Stafford.
Family will receive visitors at Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, 210 Erie St., Edinboro, PA on Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service attended by Fr. Daniel Hoffman. His remains will then serenely rest on the family farm into which he and his sister Mil poured their souls and lives.
