Lorraine Kostas McLaughlin, 89, of Edinboro, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. She was born July 21,1932 in Ambridge, PA to the late Nick and Helen Kostas.
Lorraine graduated from Slippery Rock University in 1955 with a degree in Health and Physical Education. She was a member of the tennis, softball, and gymnastics teams. Teaching was her passion, and she touched the lives of her students for 32 years, teaching and coaching at General McLane High School, Edinboro Normal School and Allegheny College. She loved spending time with children and operated a daycare, The Kiddie Castle, while raising her family.
Lorraine was a member of the Shadbush Garden Club, Edinboro Women's Tennis League, and she attended Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. She was actively involved in her community and inspired many. She was an avid sports fan especially when her grandchildren were involved.
Lorraine had a warm smile and a big heart; she was kind and generous to everyone. She always greeted you with a compliment. She was an excellent cook and proud of her Greek heritage, fondly referred to as Yia Yia by many. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was the heart and soul of her family and will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Daniel McLaughlin; and four brothers, Gus, John, Mike and Jim Kostas.
Survivors include a brother, Greg Kostas and a sister, Josie Cormier, both of San Diego, CA; a son, James P. McLaughlin of Edinboro; two daughters, Helen Skelton and her husband Dennis of Edinboro and Dani Rooney and her husband Tom of Portsmouth NH. Grandchildren include DJ, Devon, Dan, Ryan, Jena, Finn, Bridget and Ian, as well as many beloved great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 128 Sunset Dr., Edinboro on Monday, January 31, 2022 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Daniel Hoffman officiating.
The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
