Judith “Judy” Smith (née McGarey) of Edinboro, died in her sleep on March 13, 2016, at Millcreek Community Hospital, at the age of 78.

Judy is survived by her loving husband, Powell Smith; her children, Susan Smith of New York, N.Y., and David (Lisa) Smith of Durham, N.C.; a sister, Marjorie (Jeffrey) Lohr of Portland, Ore; and a nephew, Andrew Lohr and his family, also of Portland, Ore as well as extended family and dear friends from all over. She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Gladys McGarey.

Judy was born on April 11, 1937 in Teaneck N.J. She is a graduate of State College High School, Presbyterian School of Nursing in Philadelphia, attended Indiana University at Bloomington and also received a Bachelor of Science degree from Edinboro University.

She worked as one of the wonderful nurse's for Dr. Miller in Edinboro for many years. Judy was also a school nurse for Edinboro and McKean Elementary Schools helping many different children.

Judy was passionate about her work as a nurse in hospitals, schools and physician offices. Her children remember her quick wit and love for reading, which fueled a lifetime of learning. She cherished her children and grandchildren, Leo, Jillian and Abraham Smith, always asking for the latest news of their exploits. She was an avid fan of Penn State football and loved State College. She always showed a genuine interest in the well-being of her friends and family.

The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 from 2-4 pm at the First United Presbyterian Church, 4281 Rte 6N, Edinboro, PA 16412, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 p.m., with a reception afterward at the church.
