John Hogan

Kind and thoughtful with a wicked sense of humor, John Philip Hogan died after a brief illness on June 14th at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Erie, PA.
Born in Geneva, NY on April 14, 1944, John grew up in Syracuse and moved to Edinboro to be with his bride, Mary Kristina (Clark) Hogan, a teacher of Piano Performance and other music courses at Edinboro University. John and Tina were married for 47 years and loved watching basketball games, the news, and history shows together. Their cats and especially John’s “grand-dog” Boost gave them a lot of pleasure.
John had enlisted in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam war and was stationed at Chulai where he was a radio electronics repair specialist. Sgt. Hogan reassured his parents, Francis and Ruth Hogan, that his safety was practically guaranteed by his close contact with the expensive and crucial equipment that the Corps was bound to protect. Always proud to be a Marine, John generally covered the rust on his vehicles with a Marine Corps decal.
John and his son Philip enjoyed converting their muscle car from a street car to a racing car and taking it to car shows, the drag strip, and national events.
A life-long devotee of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, John’s recent passion was cooking extravagant breakfasts for his family on a flat-top grill on his deck. John always brought his small griddle to the Adirondacks in the summer for his special outdoor pancakes and bacon, a tradition he shared with his sister, Margaret, if the fishing failed.
John loved his colleagues and customers at the Arthur F. Schultz company where he always hoped he could recommend just the right piece of furniture for that difficult corner in the living room.
John is survived by his wife, Mary Kristina Clark Hogan, his son, Philip Clark Hogan, Philip’s partner, Nicole Mioduszewski, and his sister, Margaret Hogan of Brookline, MA.
There will be a memorial gathering at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Saturday, June 24, 2017 from 3 to 5 p.m. A service will be held there at 5:00 p.m.
Burial of ashes will be in Edinboro Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
