Joanne H. Cox

Joanne Hill Cox, 87, of Edinboro, died Friday, May 24, 2024 at St. Vincent Hospital. Daughter of the late David D. Hill and Marybelle Hill Dennis, survived by husband, Clifford Cox; daughters, Lisa Tenerowicz and Bethany Buckley (Joe); grandchildren, Joshua Tenerowicz (Alena), Brian Tenerowicz (Erin) and Sarah Schweiker (Nick). 

Born in Indiana, PA, on October 20, 1936, Joni attended the Keith Demonstration School on the campus of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Indiana High School. She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1958 with a degree in Home Economics Education and added graduate work to her transcript from that same institution in 1959/60. She taught in the Saltsburg, (PA) Joint School System from 1958-1961. Along with her husband, Clifford, Joni served as a Danforth Associate, a program of the Danforth Foundation devoted to working with and leading university students in order to enhance their undergraduate endeavors. 

The two most important facets in Joni’s life concerned her family and her faith. Devoted to guiding her children and seeing to the family’s needs, she never wavered in her support of their activities. All three of her grandchildren had a very special place in her heart. An integral part of her day was dedicated to time spent in reading the Bible and reflecting on the meaning of those words to her life. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Edinboro, she served as a deacon as well as other committees as needed. 

Joni also took special delight in helping others. She supported many charities, but her greatest pleasure came through anonymous gifts she made to people in need or whom she admired for their good works. 

The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Friends may call at the First United Presbyterian Church of Edinboro, 4281 Rte 6N, Edinboro, on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 12 noon until the time of a funeral service at 2 pm.
