Joan L. Pieper, 85 of Edinboro, died Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Saint Vincent Hospital. She was born in Beaver Center, PA on May 9, 1937, the daughter of the late William and Katherine Sturm.
Joan graduated from Edinboro High School. She married the late Larry Pieper in 1955 and they shared 64 years together until the time of his death in 2019. They settled in Franklin Township where they raised their sons and worked the family farm.
Joan and Larry were both accomplished musicians. Known as Joan and the Hoedown Country Band, Joan played bass, sang and called square dances for fairs, weddings, dances and other special events throughout the tri-state area for over 40 years.
Joan worked hard all of her life. In addition to the family farm, she worked for the Woods family planting and harvesting cabbage and potatoes, and later for Woods Dairy. In addition, she worked for Schruer's Dairy, Rouse's 5&10, Edinboro IGA, and was the head baker at General McLane High School and James W. Parker Middle School until her retirement in 1999. She also sold Avon and Tupperware for many years.
Joan was a long time member of Franklin Center United Methodist Church. She and Larry volunteered countless hours there and ran the church food building at the Albion Fair for over 40 years. She also enjoyed making quilts with the Eureka Road Ladies Aid group.
Survivors include her sons, Craig (Autumn) Pieper and Paul Pieper, both of Edinboro; 3 grandchildren, Seth, Adam (Celeste) and Ethan (Rachel) Pieper; 3 great granddaughters; her brother, Phil (Dorothy) Sturm; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 6th at 10 a.m. at Franklin Center United Methodist Church, 7471 Old State Road, Edinboro, PA 16412.
Burial will be in Edinboro Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Franklin Center United Methodist Church at the address above.
