Norma Jean (Pierce) Haschalk, 68, of Venango, formerly of Erie, peacefully passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at her home. She was born in Anderson, Indiana on November 13, 1947, the daughter of the late Merril and Mary (Neal) Pierce.
Jean loved her family and friends very much, especially spending time with her children and grandsons. She liked doing ceramics, true counted cross-stitch, flower gardening, and bowling. When Jean's children were young, she was a Girl Scout Leader and Cookie Mother for 5 years, volunteered for Boy Scouts and was a volunteer Librarian at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Erie and also served as a cook at the BINGO's. She also volunteered for Religious Education and Thrifty Threads for 10 years at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Edinboro. Also at Our Lady of the Lake, she was part of the Altar Rosary Society helping with dinners and Lenten Fish Fry's.
Jean worked as a beautician for five years in Erie, a supervisor for JC Penney Catalog in Grandview Plaza, and a pharmacy technician for Thrift Drugs until she retired in 1999. Jean was a Secretary/Treasurer for T.O.P.S. for a local Erie Chapter for over 10 years.
Survivors include her loving husband of 47 years, John C. Haschalk; a son, Timothy Haschalk and his wife, Danielle, of Edinboro; two daughters, Melissa Coulson and her husband, Sean, of Erie, and Lori Thomas and her husband, David, of Waterford; a brother Merril “Art” Pierce, Jr. and his wife, Sandy, of Erie; a sister, Bobbi Lazar and her husband, Rob, of Seneca, PA; also, three grandsons, Nicholas, Matthew and Jacob Haschalk; and 5 nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a memorial mass at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 128 Sunset Drive, on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Dan Hoffman officiating.
A Private Burial will be in Edinboro Cemetery at a later date.
