James William Parker, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born on March 14, 1922. Son of the late Clinton and Flossie Smith Parker.
James proudly served the United States Army during WWII. He was a Staff Sargent of the 83rd Infantry division. During his service he had received two Purple Hearts.
He taught in Edinboro from 1947 until 1960, when he became Superintendent of the General McLane School District. James coached basketball and also assisted with the football team.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include, his beloved wife of 65 years, Dorothy Kathryn Melzer Parker; his son, Richard Parker and his wife Debbie of Edinboro; daughter, Karen Parker Szafranski and her husband Stephen of VA; two brothers, Victor Parker and his wife Elaine of NY; and Glenn Parker and his wife Sharon of FL; also five grandchildren, Kendall Wills, Lydia Szafranski, Ryan Parker, Corey Parker and Alli Parker; and one great grandchild Teagan Wills.
Friends may call the Glunt Funeral Home, 210 Erie St., Edinboro, on Friday, October 26, 2012 from 2 p.m. To 4 p.m. And 7 p.m. To 9:00 p.m.. A service will be held at Edinboro United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 11:00 A.M..
Burial will be at Edinboro Cemetery.
