Irene Myers

August 12, 1926 — November 9, 2019

Irene Frances Serafin Myers, 93, long-time resident of Oil City, passed away November 9, 2019 at Edinboro Manor, in Edinboro, PA.

She was born in Oil City on August 12, 1926 to the late Lukasz and Katarzyna Kargal Serafin.  She had one brother, Rudolf (Rudy) L. Serafin, who preceded her in death.

Irene married Russell Eugene Myers on September 15, 1950 at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.  He preceded her in death.

Irene was a 1944 graduate of Oil City High School and graduated from Butler County Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1948.  She worked as a Registered Nurse at Franklin Hospital for over 40 years as a night Nurse Supervisor.

Throughout her life she was known for her generosity and love for family, always welcoming family and friends to the home that she and Russ built during the early years of their marriage.  Many have fond memories of get-togethers and cookouts in their backyard.  Irene had a deep faith in the Catholic Church and traditions. She cared for her family deeply and was the caregiver to family members in need.

Irene loved to read, something that she especially enjoyed during her retirement.   Until recently, Irene was able to continue living independently in the home that she loved, because of the loving care and support of friends and family who visited or phoned, brought her meals, delivered her mail and newspaper, especially her daughter Diana, son David, and close friend and neighbor, Jerry Kalamajka.

Irene is survived by her four children: David (Shirley) of Greenville, PA; Diana (Jay) Macho of Edinboro, PA; Richard (Kristen) of Salem, OR; and Joseph (Rachael) of Granger, IN; seven grandchildren: Erika Macho (Greg Wyman) of Valley City, OH; Caryn Myers (Walker Eliason) of Abbotsford, British Columbia; Eric (Alicia) Myers of Parker, CO; Erin Myers (David Fifer) of Fishers, IN; Sean Myers of Louisville, KY; Sarah Myers of Indianapolis, IN; and Kathryn Myers of West Lafayette, IN; and six great-grandchildren:  Cameron Wyman, Ellie and Jax Eliason, Wade and Quinn Myers, and Liam Fifer; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her beloved cats, Echo and Nemo.

The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is in charge of  arrangements.

Irene requested no viewing or visitation.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 35 Pearl Ave., Oil City, PA.   Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Venango County Humane Society, 286 S.
