Glen Emery Gathers, 85, of McKean died Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at St. Mary's Home of Erie, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on October 18, 2013. He was born in Erie, on February 26, 1928, son of the late Glenn E. and Adda Lewis Gathers.
Glen retired in 1987 from General Electric Aerospace Engineering after 33 years of service and in 1994 from consulting Leland Electrosystems after 6 years of service. He was an avid wood and metal worker, and a do-it-yourself enthusiast. Glen was a former McKean Township Auditor and Road Committee Member. He also served as a board member of Edinboro United Methodist Church.
Glen was preceded in death by his first wife, MaryLou Peelman Gathers in 1994 after 44 years of marriage, and his second wife, Patricia Myers Gathers in 2011 after 16 years of marriage, his brothers, Dale and Keith Gathers, sister, Romayne Peterson, grandson, Steven Nicholas Gathers and a niece, Darlene Gathers.
Survivors include four children, Kevin Gathers of Erie; Mark Gathers of Morgantown, WV; Steven Gathers and his wife Michele of Erie; and Janet Gathers of Gilbertsville, PA; three stepchildren, Teresa Sublette Nelson of Pittsburgh; Elizabeth Sublette of Oregon; and Bill Sublette of OH; two grandchildren, Jarrod and Kyle Gathers; and two step-grandchildren, James and Oliva Nelson; also many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Edinboro United Methodist Church, 113 High Street, Edinboro, on Saturday, December 21st from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Lisa Grant officiating.
Burial will be in Edinboro Cemetery at a later date.
