David Munzert

David Joseph Munzert, 77, of Edinboro passed Tuesday April 19, 2011 at his home. He was born June 30, 1933, in Buffalo, NY to Alfred W. Munzert, Sr. and Loretta Haley and parented by Joseph and Cora Schwarz. He earned Associates Degrees in Corrections and Criminal Justice from Pima Community College in Tucsan, AZ. He served for 21 years and retired from the United States Air Force. He served for 21 years and retired from the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs. His last appointment was as the Chief of Volunteers and Public Relations Officer at the Erie VA Medical Center.
He entered the Air Force in 1950 during the Korean War and retired in 1971. He had numerous domestic assignments including Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota, Niagra Falls, New York, Myrtle Beach AFB, South Carolina, Mt. Home, Idaho, and Keesler AFB, Mississippi. His overseas assignments included Korea, Germany, and Japan. He also served two tours in Vietnam, in Da Nang and Nha Trang, where he earned a medal of commendation for meritorious service and a Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion, the Air Force Security Police Association, the Air Force Vietnam Security Police Association, and a 32nd degree Mason. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Association. Locally, he served on the Washington Township Council for four years, two years as mayor. Above all, he was a dedicated, loving, and generous husband, son, father and grandfather.
He enjoyed reading, playing cards, fishing, bowling, music, puzzles and sports, and loved spending time at the family cottage. He played tennis, racquet ball, baseball, and softball.
He was preceded in death by his Uncle Joseph & Aunt Cora Schwarz, his siblings Alfred W. Munzert, Jr., Donald F. Munzert, Maureen Lindsay, and Michael Spencer. He is survived by his wife Joanne Munzert, and father-in-law, Donald Bryant of Edinboro; daughters Becky Willow of Edinboro and Shelly Boutte (Mathew) of Woodland Park, CO, 4 sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, a son-in-law Norman Willow of Edinboro; grandchildren Alayna Willow, Clayton & Sophia Boutte; close cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Visitors may call at Glunt Funeral Home 210 Erie St. Edinboro on Monday April 25th from 2PM-4PM and 7PM-9PM.  A celebration of his life will be held at Unity in Edinboro, 130 Meadville Street, Edinboro on Tuesday April 26th at 11:00 AM..
