Darla (Hayes) Myers

Darla (Hayes) Myers of Edinboro, PA went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2023. She was born in Edinboro on March 20, 1939, the daughter of the late Walter Hayes and Helen (Schatz) Hayes.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Myers, in 2009.  They were happily married for 48 years, spending their retirement winters in Stuart, FL.

Darla’s friendly smile and blue-ribbon apple pie were her signatures.  She lived by the motto “Grow Where You Are Planted”. She graduated from Edinboro High School in 1957 and opened Darla Myers Beauty Shop there in 1960.  She taught cosmetology at JH Thompson Beauty Academy and was a proctor for the PA State Board of Cosmetology.  She also worked for State Farm Insurance, Erie Tenant Council and was a grant coordinator for HUD. At the age of 50, Darla earned a BA in speech communication from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.  She retired from EUP where she was an evening transportation coordinator for the Office of Students with Disabilities.

Darla served on the board of directors for Family Services Mother to Mother Program, Hermitage House Youth Services and Salvation Army (homeless outreach).  She was a volunteer at Mercy Center for Women and was a lifetime member of Edinboro United Methodist Church, Shadbush Club of Edinboro and Eastern Star Chapter #22. Always an advocate for those in need, Darla felt blessed to serve and take the Lord to all of these places. Memorials to any of these organizations would be welcomed. 

Darla is survived by her beloved son, Chris Myers and daughter-in-law, Debra; beloved grandchildren, Michael Myers (Erin), Julia Shipton (Dylan) and Libby Myers; great grandchildren, Atalie and Franklin; siblings, Larry Hayes (Susan), Donald Hayes (Rita), Audrey Morris and Lorraine Wolfe-Dowdell (Peter); as well as many nieces and nephews.
