Daniel English

Daniel Hilbert English, 77, of Cranesville, died Thursday, January 24, 2019 at home.

He was born in Erie on December 14, 1941, the son of the late Ted and Margaret English. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Daniel grew up in Fairview and graduated from Fairview High School in 1959. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He completed recruit training at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas, followed by technical school at Goodfellow AFB, San Angelo, Texas. Airman English spent the duration of his enlistment at Bremerhaven AFB in Germany.

After his honorable discharge in 1963, he returned to his hometown. A blind date, with Shirley A. Russin, led to love and a wedding at Franklin Center United Methodist Church on May 15, 1965. They honeymooned with a road trip to historic Virginia. Daniel and Shirley spent the first years of their marriage living in apartments, first in Millcreek, on Beechgrove Drive, then later in Erie, on Liberty Street, when their first daughter was born. Before the birth of their second daughter, they moved to Franklin Center, then in 1973 moved to Mohawk Road, where they spent the rest of their married life together.

Daniel was employed by Lord Corporation of Erie for 37 years and retired on December 31, 2003. After retirement, he became well known for the beautiful wood scrollwork he made. He recently began attending Franklin Center United Methodist Church.

Daniel was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley in 2017.

Survivors include two daughters, Jill (Jon) Johnston, of New Braunfels, TX and Jodie (John) Murphy, of Edinboro; his sister, Marge Wagner, of Millcreek; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

No calling hours will be observed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Franklin Center United Methodist Church, with Rev. Bob Klingler, Rev. Matt Rendulic and Rev. Barb English officiating.

The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
