Charles C. Alward, 86, of Erie, formerly of Edinboro, Cambridge Springs, Franklin, PA and Phoenix, AZ, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2016 at Brevillier Village Retirement Center. He was born in Lorain, OH on April 19, 1930, the son of the late Cecil and Edna Alward.
Until 1971, Charles was very active as first responder with Edinboro VFD and Captain of their rescue squad. He was also an ambulance driver and responder at Community Ambulance in Franklin, PA.
Charles served in the U.S. Army in Okinawa during Korea. He enjoyed golf, Penn State football and going to Las Vegas and Salamanca.
He was an electrical lineman and street light foreman for Sardoni, Penelec, Arizona Public Service companies.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Patricia Alward, of 62 years; a daughter: Melissa Alward; 4 brothers Russell, Jimmy, Marvin, and Thomas Alward; 2 sisters Irene and Shirley; and a grandson Jacob Miller.
Survivors include his two daughters, Elizabeth Alward and Amy Jo Chaplain and her husband, Brian, all of Erie; two sons, Daniel Alward and his wife, Teresa, of Oil City and Edward Alward and his partner, Denise Miller of Tempe, AZ; a brother: John (Wanda) Alward; 4 sisters: Beatty (Ray) Cole, Lois (Darrel) Richardson, Carol (Mark) Pearlman, and Marge (Frank)Tau; also five grandchildren, Phyllis Fox, Hank Alward, Tyler Killeen, Meghan Jones and Trent Chaplain; and three great-grandchildren, Dylan Fox, Anjanette DeHaas, and Erin Mietus.
No calling hours will be observed. A memorial service will be held at the Edinboro United Methodist Church, 113 High St., Edinboro, PA on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Shawn Clerkin officiating.
The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
