Carolyn T. Hazlewood

April 26, 1936 — July 30, 2023

Carolyn Thelma Hazlewood went home to be with the Lord July 30, 2023. She passed peacefully at her home in Arizona with family nearby. Carolyn was born April 26, 1936 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Alexander and Thelma (Aston) Haynos.

She grew up in Beadling and graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1954 where she was active in multiple student associations, most notably as a majorette. She graduated from Robert Morris Business School. She began her career at Kopper’s Company where she also served as a model for products. She spent 25 years at Edinboro University, including as executive assistant to the University President. She continued her education during her career at Edinboro, notably being named to the Dean’s List multiple semesters.

Carolyn cherished raising her family in Edinboro and was active in the community as a congregant at Our Lady of the Lake Church, a member of the Edinboro Town & Country Garden Club, Edinboro University Women's Lunch Brunch, and the Erie Bridge Association.

She and her husband Steve were married in 1957 and were blessed with 5 children and 6 grandchildren. She and Steve enjoyed an active retirement during which she pursued many passions: tennis, golf, gardening, reading, bridge, mahjong, and extensive travel including multiple overseas destinations. They relished their “snow bird” home in Mesa, AZ and moved to Arizona full time in 2016. Above all, Carolyn was devoted to her family and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family playing games, exploring, laughing, and reminiscing.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Steve.

She is survived by her children Laurel (Tom) McCulloh of Ardmore, OK, Lisa (Jeff) Greig of Willoughby, OH, Stephen Hazlewood of Mesa, AZ, Leslie (Jim Cardman) Hazlewood of Fairview, PA, and Scott Hazlewood of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren Brandon Hooven, Caroline Foster, Colin & Lucy Greig, and Stephanie & Alex Hazlewood. She is also survived by sisters Marce Doerfler and Susan Haynos. Among her greatest joys in life is that all of her children and grandchildren earned college degrees (and beyond).

Burial of ashes were in Edinboro Cemetery on October 7, 2023.
