Bernard Christopher Heasley
EDINBORO – Bernard Christopher Heasley, 96, of Washington Township, Edinboro, PA passed away at his home on November 6, 2010. Born August 4, 1914 in Leeper, PA, he was the son of the late George Issac and Amanda Gannon Heasley.
Bernard was a steamfitter and a member of the Local 47 for 67 years. During WWII, he worked on the “Manhattan Project” in Oakridge Tennessee. He was an avid gardener and for many years raised Morgan Horses.
Bernard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Florence Hirst Heasley; a son, George Bernard Heasley, a Navy Veteran; a much-loved grandson, Jon Hassel; four brothers Henry, Clarence, William and James and four sisters, Kate, Rose, Agnes and Dorothy.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lavelle Hassel and her husband Alfred of FL; a son, Thomas Charles Heasley and his wife Barbara of Enon Valley, PA; a son Bernard Gary Heasley and his wife Janice of Edinboro. Also surviving Bernard are his five grandchildren; Samuel Hassel, Thomas Heasley, Jr., Eric Christopher Heasley M.D., Jennifer Heasley, Bryan Christopher Heasley and eight great-grandchildren; Samuel, Morgan, Brittany and Johnathan Hassel, Kyle, Rachel, Jackson and Foster Heasley.
Visiting hours will be observed at Glunt Funeral Home, Edinboro on Wednesday November, 10 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friends are invited to join the family at a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Philip R.C. Church in Crossingville on November 11th, at 11:00 a.m.. Father Thad Kondzielski will be celebrating the Mass.
