Basil James “B.J.” Zafiropulos, remembered for his devotion to his family and his integrity, passed away on February 25, 2019.
His life was defined by his respect for others and his zest for sailing and meteorology. He met his future wife, Plucia, in Maryland, where she was impressed by his character, personality and wit.
Basil served in the United States Navy for four years. He spent time at the Norfolk Naval Air Station, working as an aviation aerographer.
He also taught at the Union City Area High School and was proud of the debate team he once coached, due to its many victories. Basil received his Bachelors of Arts Degree and Masters of Education Degree from Gannon University.
Basil was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Maria Zafiropulos. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Marie Dina Zafiropulos, his sister-in-law, Mary (Edwin) Vaughan, his brother-in-law, John (Yelena) Christoforakis, and his cousins, Nicholas Kolettis, Dr. Yannis Kolettis, Mando Tsoubas Sares, and Andreas Tsoubas.
No calling hours will be observed. A memorial service may be held at a later date.
The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
