Barbara Jane (Peterson) Jewell, 90, formerly of Edinboro, died March 8, 2025, at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community in Meadville. Barbara was born on October 16, 1934, at the Mountain Clinic in Olean, NY. She was the daughter of the late John R. and Margaret A. Peterson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace F. Jewell and her brother, Charles R. Peterson.
She grew up in Derrick City, PA and graduated from Bradford High School in 1952. She graduated from Bryant and Stratton Business School in Buffalo in 1953 and worked at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY for five years before returning to PA.
On March 28, 1959, she married Wallace F. Jewell, Jr and moved to Warren, Pa. where Wally was teaching at the high school. Her family was the love of her life, and they called her Bubi.
Survivors include two sons, Scott (Sandee) Jewell, of Frederick, MD, and Michael (Kimberly) Jewell, of Meadville; three grandchildren, Emilee (Claude) Richardson of Olympia, WA, Bridgette (Dustin Deitman) Jewell, and son, Ryan (Leah) Jewell, all of Pittsburgh; also, five great-grandchildren, Penelope, Parker, Eliza, Alexandra and Mason; a sister, Peggy (William) Schall, of Long Island, NY; a sister-in-law, Patricia Peterson of Derrick City, PA and many nieces and nephews.
The family moved to Edinboro in 1979, and Barbara worked in the office of Penn-Union for many years before retiring in 1996. After retiring from Penn Union, Barbara sold Weekender Clothing for Women for several years.
Barbara was a member of the Edinboro United Methodist Church, a quilter in the EUMC
quilting group, Edinboro United Methodist Women, Northcoast Sewing Guild, and former member of the Shadbush Club of Edinboro. She loved to sew, quilt, read, ride her bike, and walked many miles.
The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Friends may call at the Edinboro United Methodist Church, 113 High St., Edinboro, on Friday, March 14, 2025 from 11 am to 12 p.m. A service will follow at noon. Burial will be private in Edinboro Cemetery.
