Anthony Thomas Remek, resident of Rolling Fields Nursing Home, Conneautville, for the past nine and a half years, formerly of Irish Road, Edinboro, passed away Monday, October 7, 2013.
He was born May 14, 1921 in Edinboro, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Martak Remek.
He enlisted in the 8th Army Air Force, January 17, 1942, serving under General George Patton, and was given an Honorable Discharge October 16, 1945 with the rank of Corporal. He was a member of the 2090th Engineer Air Force Fire Fighting Platoon. During the war he served in Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Tunisia, Sicily, Italy, and Avignon, France. One of the planes he serviced was the famous bomber, “Lady Be Good” which overshot its base after a night mission and was preserved in the Libyan desert.
He retired as a truck driver with Austin Ready-Mix Co. in Erie after many years of service. All his life he enjoyed farming, gardening, and fixing engines.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Remek and his sisters, Agnes Duda and Ann McDougle.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred McLaughlin Remek whom he married December 27, 1958; two sons, Dr. Robert Remek, DMA, and his wife, Mary Jo, of Cooper City, FL, and Philip Remek, CFA, MBA, of Summit, NJ. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the Glunt Funeral Home, 210 Erie Street, Edinboro, on Friday, October 11, 2013, from 3 to 5 p.m and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Philip Church, 25797 SR98, Crossingville, at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 12, 2013, with Father Denny Veltri officiating.
